Day 172 - April 3, 3013: Touring Haig Point
Today we took a tour of Daufuskie Island in our friends' golf carts, with Kathy and Anne in one, and Larry and me in the other. Besides Haig Point, we covered Melrose, Oak Ridge and Bloody Point, where we ate lunch in the golf course clubhouse. These areas were named for plantations that were established on the island back in the 1800s. Larry seems to know virtually everyone on the island and can point out their houses, where they came from, and some interesting stories about them. Sometimes we laughed so hard our eyes watered. What a kick!

Walking around Bloody Point |
We discovered that we are facing high winds, rain and thunderstorms over the next two days and were concerned about not having adequate sheltered docking. While the club dock was very nice and so very convenient to our friends, it was fully exposed to the northeast winds across the bay and directly adjacent to the ICW boat traffic and wakes. So, after our tour, we decided to move up to a more protected marina at Beaufort, and reluctantly said goodbye till next time. Many thanks to Larry and Kathy for such a great visit!
