Day 21 - October 4, 2012: Tennessee River to Lick Bay

Before moving on to another anticipated anchorage at Lick Bay, we walked the Johnsonville State Historic Park next to Pebble Isle Marina.

On the way I was excited to run across a truck that had just arrived from the east coast transporting a 1986 37 ft Lord Nelson Victory Tug. Why get excited? This is one of only 76 of this length ever built and is a legend among true full displacement tug lovers. Its classic lines, great interior layout and very efficient fuel efficiency make it a classic.

The walk through the park where the Johnsonville Battle took place was interesting and got us some needed exercise.

We are getting quite accustomed to the idea of anchoring out every day or so, and beginning to feel confident in our anchoring skills. Lick Bay is another one we choose for its seclusion, even though the entrance was a bit narrow and depths as always on the river are uncertain. The heron was fishing near the boat and stayed long enough for this shot at dusk.

  1. The photos AND the great narrative make your blog the most enjoyable read of my day! Thanks so much Larry and Anne for taking us along. The colors are wonderful here and we have the first cold snap of the season. First Tigers postseason game tonight and plan to accompany it with a fire...have to do what we can...
