Day 133 - February 11, 2013: Escape from the slip and travel to Fort Lauderdale

After two nights of waking up trying to figure out the best way to get out of our tight slip and narrow fairway in the wind, I finally arrived at "the perfect plan." We awoke at 6:00 a.m. to lighter winds and made the special preparations to depart. Just then, we got high wind gusts and almost aborted before a miracle of light winds appeared again and we made the break. The plan worked extremely well, and I was quite relieved. Another challenge met and slayed.

Moving up through Miami is quite an experience. There are mega high-rise condo buildings, yachts, container ports, cruise ship docks and homes. Everything is on a grand scale beyond belief. With the Miami Boat Show next week, there was a parade of shiny new boats coming down from the east coast. We took a hundred pictures of all of this, far more than any other day on the trip. Then we turned up New River into the heart of Fort Lauderdale.

Dense high-rise condos
Many 100+ foot yachts
Multiple cruise ship ports
Container ship loading/unloading ports

Exclusive estates
Parades of boat show yachts
