Day 151 - March 1, 2013: Jacksonville Landing

This setting along the Jacksonville Landing city dock, with restaurants, shops, and views of three bridges, is similar to the one we liked so much at the Bluff Docks in Chattanooga. We toured the area, which has a river walk, park, and a number of high-rise buildings which make for a towering skyline. They have a fountain across the river, which is lighted at night, but it only has one circle of jets and is on a much smaller scale than the magnificent Grand Haven Musical Fountain!

We discovered the Adams Class Naval Ship Museum, which celebrates the Navy history of this area. Volunteers here are trying to save one of the last Navy Adams Class ships now destined for scrapping in Norfolk. They want to bring it here as a waterfront attraction. There was also a Jacksonville Maritime Museum next door, but it was not open at the time.

Lunch was, of all places, at the Bank of America. They have a deli on the 42nd floor, which is open to the public, and has great views of the city. You can just see Great Laker docked on the Jacksonville Landing wall. She is in the center near the bottom, just above the upper left corner of the rectangular red tiled roof. The oval fountain is in the upper left.

Then, just for fun, we rode the free elevated tram across the river bridge and back to see the sights on the other side. There is a cold front approaching, and it will be getting into the 30s overnight!
