Day 154 - March 4, 2013: The coldest morning

This morning was the coldest so far on the entire trip! We ran the heaters all night, and when I awoke it was below 30 degrees outside. I ventured out onto the deck and discovered thick frost everywhere.

Despite the chill, I was determined to wash down the boat, and by ten o'clock it was warm enough to start getting it done. This was a full soapsuds bath, something sorely needed after our recent days on the water.

Docked next to us are live-aboard loopers Jeff and Karen, who created the ActiveCaptain.com website. This is a site we visit many times daily, as it contains charts annotated with boaters' inputs, which rate marinas, identify and rate anchorages, and locate places for groceries and marine supplies. It has been invaluable in our planning and decision making. Jeff and Karen's boat is, as they say, the "worldwide headquarters for Active Captain" and is where they do all the development and operation of the system. The boat has their logo proudly displayed on the side. We spent some time getting to know them, and I encouraged Jeff to cruise down the eastern side of Lake Michigan next summer.
